With winter holiday break right around the corner and cold weather hitting the Northern Hemisphere, it’s right about the time to look up that perfect holiday destination and start dreaming about beaches and bikinis. Here’s some of our top picks.

Acapulco, Mexico

If you’ve got plans with some of your friends, you might be looking for a place with great nightlife, wild beaches, and great surf. Acapulco is able to provide all three, and can take care of all your budget problems: this beach town is stocked with everything from youth hostels to five star, all-inclusive resorts. It’s also a great place for romance, and a favorite among young couples to kick back and enjoy the amazing scenery. You’re also not too far from an international airport for easy access, and there’s plenty of places around Acapulco to visit if you’re looking to get out of the party scene for a day or two. See more Acapulco here.

St. Kitts, St. Kitts & Nevis, Caribbean

St. Kitts is a favorite of both families and people looking for low-key relaxation time. Not only is the island great for all budget types, but sleepy beaches with both white and black sand, nice shops and restaurants, and an abundance of shipwrecks for adventurous scuba divers, it’s got everything you may be looking for a perfect getaway. St. Kitts is also only a short flight from major hubs such as New York, Boston, Washington D.C., and Miami, making flight prices relatively inexpensive. See more St. Kitts here.

Surfer’s Paradise, QS, Australia

Surfer’s Paradise isn’t called a paradise for no reason… It’s a perfect beach town that surfers frolic at, and since Australia’s in the middle of summer, there’s probably no place better to be at. Miles of pristine white sand and turquoise blue water surround the city, and it’s easy to get lost here… Although, beware if you don’t have a big budget: flights to Australia are hefty. Surfer’s Paradise offers great water conditions from novice swimmers to professional surfers, and lifeguarded beaches that are staffed year-round. See more Surfer’s Paradise here.

Moorea, French Polynesia

French Polynesia is known for its beautiful white beaches, amazing lagoons, world class surf breaks, and laid back Polynesian culture. It also has the world’s largest coral reef system, with over 3,000 separate reefs. Snorkel, dive, surf, swim, or kayak amongst the island’s incredible natural beauty, and spend a night in an over water bungalow. Split a room with friends and stay in pensions, local, family-owned B&Bs, to save. See more Moorea here.

Fort Lauderdale, a part of the greater Miami-Dade area, is a fantastic choice for a winter vacation. With 23 miles of well-maintained, lifeguarded beaches, great nightlife, easy airport accessibility, and an amazing boardwalk culture, there’s nothing short of excitement and a great time to be found. Tulum, Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico

With beautiful nature, sunshine, history, beautiful caves, turquoise waters, gorgeous sands, and ancient Mayan temples, there’s much to love about Tulum. It’s a hit for everybody: from groups of friends (you can find great nightlife) to amazingly romantic resorts for couples to fun-in-the-sun kiddie hotels for families to relax and enjoy the surroundings.
